About me
Mr Hide Yamamoto is a Consultant Urological Surgeon specialising in the diagnosis and treatment of prostate cancer and benign prostate hyperplasia (BPH). His surgical expertise lies in accurate diagnosis of prostate cancer through the use of MRI and biopsies, prostate cancer surgery (robotic/DaVinci), and BPH surgery (TURP/HoLEP). He also regularly sees patients with general urological conditions such as urinary infections, troublesome urinary symptoms, or paediatric urological conditions.
He works as a Consultant Urologist at Maidstone & Tunbridge Wells NHS Trust and serves as the lead for urology cancer and MDMs (Multidisciplinary Team Meetings). He is also an Expert Committee Member for the diagnostics guidelines team at the National Institute for Health & Care Excellence (NICE).
Mr Yamamoto gained his primary medical qualification at Cambridge University. Subsequently he went on to gain his PhD in prostate cancer with UCL supported by a British Urological Foundation Scholarship.
He is a pioneer of transperineal prostate biopsies performed under local anaesthetic and was one of the first in the UK to adopt the new approach. He trains other urologists at national courses. He is active in prostate cancer research as a Principal Investigator for the TRANSLATE study which investigates the best method for diagnosing prostate cancer. He reviews regularly for the peer-review journal (BJU International Journal).
Mr Yamamoto sees his private patients at various hospitals in Kent, including Nuffield Tunbridge Wells, Spire Tunbridge Wells, and GenesisCare Maidstone.
