About me
I am a Consultant Colorectal and General Surgeon and Robotic Lead at Manchester Royal Infirmary, part of Manchester University NHS Foundation Trust.
My primary objective is to deliver the highest quality service possible to my patients with a strong emphasis on patient safety and excellent outcomes.
I have regular operating and endoscopy sessions at the Spire Hospital Manchester which is rated outstanding by the CQC.
My areas of specialist interest include treatment and prevention of bowel complaints. This includes benign conditions such as haemorrhoids / piles, inflammatory bowel disease and diverticular disease and malignant conditions such as colon and rectal cancer.
My general surgery work includes keyhole hernia and gallstone/ gallbladder surgery and also benign skin lesions such as lipomas and cysts of the skin.
As part of my NHS work I regularly participate in emergency surgery treating problems such as appendicitis and acute rectal bleeding.
I am a keen endoscopist and hold full JAG accreditation for colonoscopy, sigmoidoscopy, gastroscopy and polypectomy (removal of polyps with endoscope). I am an active member of faculty at the Mersey School of Endoscopy teaching regularly on colonoscopy courses, which I thoroughly enjoy.
I qualified and subsequently specialised in the UK and abroad gaining invaluable experience from visiting international centres of excellence, having completed two post qualification fellowships including a laparoscopic colorectal fellowship in Yorkshire and subsequently an advanced rectal cancer fellowship at the Karolinska University hospital in Stockholm. I have also spent time in Tokyo’s Medical and Dental Hospital to learn advanced robotic techniques.
I was previously elected President of the Dukes’ Club and was a member of council of the Association of Coloproctology of Great Britain and Ireland for the duration of this term.
I am actively involved in audit and research locally and at a national level recruiting patients to multiple trials.
