About me

I am a senior consultant cardiologist at Trent Cardiac Centre at Nottingham University Hospitals.

I have more than 30 years of experience and am happy to see anyone with chest pain, palpitations (including atrial fibrillation), breathlessness and heart failure, heart murmurs, blood pressure and faints or blackouts.

My new patient appointments are for 50 minutes which allows plenty of time for questions and a better understanding. I appreciate that heart symptoms can be very worrying but many symptoms are benign and often just need tests and reassurance.

In the private hospitals we have no access to your NHS data so please bring a list of medications, any discharge summaries or clinic letters plus any investigation results.

I was appointed in 1994 and was instrumental in setting up interventional cardiology and cardiac surgery in Nottingham. I was successful in bidding for NHS money to set up the Trent Cardiac centre. I am is the senior cardiologist at Trent Cardiac Centre.

I had a scholarship to Oxford University for my preclinical training and then completed clinical training at the Royal London Hospital.

My specialist cardiology training began as a registrar at the National Heart Hospital in London and subsequently the Royal Brompton Hospital. I was awarded an MD in 1991 for research in the new field (at that time) of catheter ablation.

I subsequently was a senior registrar at the regional cardiology unit at the Northern General Hospital in Sheffield where I helped set up cardiac electrophysiology and ablation services.

I have a vast experience in all aspects of cardiology and have sub specialist interests in devices (pacemakers and defibrillators), electrophysiology and ablation and coronary stenting. I have performed many thousands of each of these procedures but since September 2023 have stopped doing these procedures (my own choice). I can still advise about them, discuss the benefits and risks and refer to my colleagues.

I am happy to see patients with all routine cardiac problems including angina, heart rhythm disturbances including atrial fibrillation, heart failure, cardiomyopathies heart valve disease and symptoms of chest pain, palpitations, faints, syncope and cardiac breathlessness.

I have no specialist expertise in POTS or post viral syndrome / ME.

I have extensively researched and published on coronary stents, pacemakers, defibrillators, ablation and antiplatelet drugs.
