About me
Dr Manish Gupta is a Senior Consultant Ophthalmologist and the Retina Lead for NHS Greater Glasgow and Clyde, a role he has held since September 2025. He was appointed as an NHS Consultant in December 2010 and joined NHS Greater Glasgow in August 2011. He leads the strategic development, governance, and delivery of the Medical Retina service across Queen Elizabeth University Hospital and Stobhill Hospital.
His clinical practice covers the full spectrum of medical retina conditions, including age-related macular degeneration, diabetic macular oedema, diabetic retinopathy, and retinal vein occlusions. He also provides comprehensive general ophthalmology services and undertakes intravitreal injections, Argon laser treatments, and YAG laser capsulotomy for posterior capsule opacification.
Dr Gupta is an Honorary Senior Clinical Lecturer at the University of Glasgow and an examiner for the Royal College of Physicians and Surgeons of Glasgow. He has co-authored book chapters and published in international peer-reviewed journals. He is actively involved in multidisciplinary education and training, including optometrists, nurses, and general practitioners, and regularly delivers specialist teaching courses for optometrists. He is also a Consultant Trainer for opticians at the West of Scotland Teach and Treat (WOSCOTT) clinic.
