About me

Dr Kinesh Patel is a consultant gastroenterologist based at two of London's leading hospitals: Chelsea and Westminster Hospital and the Royal Brompton Hospital. He qualified with distinction from Imperial College London in 2004 and completed his advanced specialist training across North West London.

In 2017, he earned a research doctorate (MD) from Imperial College London for his work dedicated to improving bowel cancer detection rates and raising quality standards for colonoscopies. Highlighting his expertise and commitment to patient care, he was named as one of the UK's top specialists in the [Tatler Doctors Guide 2026](https://www.tatler.com/article/doctors-guide-gastroenterologists).

Dr Patel cares for patients experiencing a wide range of digestive health issues, including:

* Acid reflux and heartburn
* Bowel cancer screening
* Inflammatory bowel disease (IBD)
* Clinical nutrition and weight management
* Food allergies

He has a special interest in complex food allergies and nutrition. He runs the dedicated nutrition service at Chelsea and Westminster and jointly leads a unique, specialized Food Allergy and Gastroenterology clinic at the Royal Brompton. Outside of the clinic, Dr Patel shares his expertise globally by publishing research, speaking at international conferences, and authoring three medical textbooks.

Procedures Performed

Dr Patel is highly experienced in performing standard diagnostic and therapeutic procedures, ensuring his patients feel safe and comfortable throughout:

**Upper GI Endoscopy:** A gentle look inside your food pipe, stomach, and the first part of your small bowel using a thin, flexible camera.
**Colonoscopy:** An internal examination of the large bowel using a flexible camera to check for any signs of inflammation or changes in the tissue.
**Polypectomy:** The safe, painless removal of small, precancerous growths (polyps) from the lining of the bowel during a colonoscopy.
**Wireless pH Capsule Insertion:** A modern way to measure acid reflux by attaching a tiny wireless capsule to the wall of the food pipe during a routine endoscopy. This avoids the need for uncomfortable, temporary tubes down the nose.
