About me

I am Professor of Urology at University College London. My primary focus is to reduce the side effects from surgery to remove prostate cancer (robot assisted radical prostatectomy) without decreasing the chance of cure. I work hard to achieve this by developing and rigorously testing new techniques. CUP to promote continence and NeuroSafe to promote potency. I led the UCLH robotic urology team, the UKs highest volume radical prostatectomy team for 5 years (2020-25). I specialise in precision diagnostics and treatment of prostate cancer. I have authored over 120 research papers and been awarded prizes for my work by the European, American, Japanese and British Associations of Urology. I have personally performed over 1400 robotic radical prostatectomies. My robotic prostatectomy caseload was the highest of all surgeons at UCLH from 2015-2024 and my caseload remains amongst the highest in the UK. I believe that robotic prostatectomy is the best way to cure prostate cancer.

I lead the NeuroSafe PROOF international randomised clinical trial of the NeuroSAFE technique which has proven that NeuroSAFE increases post- surgical sexual potency rates by promoting safe nerve sparing at robotic radical prostatectomy. The results were published in Lancet Oncology and are reported as game changing by the European Association of Urology and newspapers around the world in 2025.

I was the first to describe a technique called complete urethral preservation (CUP) which results in rapid post operative urinary continence without jeopardising cancer control. This allows patients to resume work, exercise and normal activities, including sexual activity, a month after surgery.

I have a very low complication rate, since starting robotic prostatectomy as a consultant in 2015, over 1400 patients- 0% major (clavien 3 or above) complications.

I have a strong track record of leadership and research in prostate cancer and my academic work focuses on trials to generate strong evidence on ways of improving outcomes for men with prostate cancer. I completed the prestigious Royal College of Surgeons Fellowship in robotic surgery and trained at Cambridge University where I worked for 5 years as a Lecturer. I led the NIHR (research arm of the NHS) for urology research (North Thames) for 7 years.

I conduct telephone and video consults where preferable and I take care of patients from all over the world.I pride myself on maintaining strong relationships with the patients I treat and many are prepared to talk with people contemplating surgery under my care.
