About me

I am an experienced chartered psychologist, supervisor, lecturer, consultant and academic. I come from a teaching background and have further developed my current specialism in psychotherapy in Cognitive Behaviour Therapy (CBT) EMDR and Schema working with adults, couples and groups. I work using evidence-based approaches on a broad range of problem areas ranging from mild to severe. I provide an integrative and personalized therapy using a number of different approaches to compliment core CBT. Currently, I am the clinical lead in our private practice and have been working within the NHS and other organisations since 2002. I am currently a board member of the BABCP Couples Therapy Group. People who know me best comment on my warmth and empathy.

I started working in mental health for charities in 2002, for the NHS from 2004 and later with our private practice. My background in psychology started in Humanistic and Psychodynamic therapies with UCL, thereafter training in CBT, Psychodynamic Therapy and Cognitive Analytic Therapy at UEL. Later I continued further training in CBT at the Institute of Psychiatry. Other therapeutic training includes EMDR, Schema, Acceptance and Commitment Therapy, Compassion-Focussed Therapy, Narrative Therapy and Mindfulness.

I have significant experience working in adult Secondary Care with personality difficulties (as well as psychosis and addictions in the Crisis Recovery Team). Other specialist work includes Autistic Spectrum Disorder (ASD) and Attention Deficit Hyperactivity Disorder (ADHD). I also have experience working with refugees, abuse and related psychological trauma. I am able to provide culturally sensitive training for professionals who wish to gain experience and understanding of working with clients who come from ethnic and minority backgrounds. In 2008, I started working more with couples, sexual health and sexual identity, abuse and relationship difficulties.

How I Work And Approach To Therapy
My training and therapy experiences, teaching background and life experiences, mean I can provide you with the benefits of therapy similar to that in NHS practice, which is informed by the most recent research findings. My therapy however, is enhanced by the ease and comforts of a private practice setting with all its advantages and flexibility and my style takes into account your language, metaphors, analogies, images and way of being. My clinical knowledge and experience will guide us in deciding how best to collaborate, that will help you create long lasting changes in yourself, relationships and other negative patterns.

There are a range of ways we can work together depending on the problem, your budget and preferences. This range involves provision of information, signposting to other services and professionals, guided self-help, Zoom, telephone, face to face individual or couples sessions, a short course of therapy or something longer. My approach includes a number of interventions drawn from different mainstream therapies that may take into account your past, including childhood and how the problem developed, as well as how present difficulties are manifest and maintained. Using this method will aid us to promote your individual strengths and personal growth within a supportive and nurturing environment. As a result I aim to bring change to unhelpful views about yourself, those around you and the world. Together I can help you make better sense of your experiences and your path in life, to empower you to maintain these changes.
