Dr Matthew Knight MBE, PGCert (Allergy), FRCP
Consultant Respiratory Physician
Practising at: Clementine Churchill Hospital, Harrow and OSD Healthcare, Hemel Hempstead

I am a Consultant Respiratory Physician with over 15 years' experience in managing complex respiratory conditions. I offer expert clinical assessment, diagnostic investigation, and personalised treatment for adults with a wide range of respiratory problems, including:

Difficult or severe asthma, including those not responding to standard treatments
Unexplained breathlessness, particularly where prior investigations have been inconclusive
Chronic cough, including post-viral, reflux-related, or hypersensitivity causes
Recurrent chest infections, including bronchiectasis, immune dysfunction and chronic airway disease
Sleep apnoea and sleep-disordered breathing, including access to home sleep studies and treatment with CPAP or alternative options

I lead the Difficult Asthma Service at West Hertfordshire Teaching Hospitals NHS Trust, where I am also Clinical Director of Interventional Medicine, overseeing respiratory, cardiology, gastroenterology and specialist diagnostic services. In addition, I serve as Chief Medical Officer and Responsible Officer at Medefer, a national NHS partner delivering consultant-led virtual care.

In my clinics, I carry out detailed clinical evaluation and arrange appropriate investigations such as:

Full lung function and airway inflammation testing (FeNO)
CT scans, chest X-rays and diagnostic imaging
Sleep studies
Allergy testing and assessment for airway hypersensitivity
Exercise testing for breathlessness
Immunological screening for recurrent infections

I work closely with ENT, immunology, cardiology and gastroenterology colleagues where multidisciplinary care is required. Many patients I see have complex, long-standing symptoms, and I aim to provide clarity and a structured treatment pathway.

I was awarded an MBE in the 2020 Queen's Honours List for services to respiratory care and innovation (especially during the pandemic). I hold a Postgraduate Certificate in Allergy and am a Fellow of the Royal College of Physicians.

Appointments are available at Clementine Churchill Hospital (Harrow) and OSD Healthcare (Hemel Hempstead). I am recognised by all major insurers and welcome both insured and self-pay patients
