About me
I am a Counselling Psychologist, and have over 10 years of experience in therapeutic work, both in the NHS and private sector.
Over this time I have worked using a variety of therapeutic models: Cognitive Behavioural Therapy (CBT), Eye Movement Desensitisation and Reprocessing (EMDR) therapy, Dynamic Interpersonal Therapy (DIT), and Integrative Psychodynamic and Person-Centred approaches.
I believe that the therapeutic relationship between the client and therapist is key to the success of the therapy and so always emphasise the importance of a collaborative approach to therapy; the belief that both the client and therapist are bringing something important to the mix and it's the combining of these in therapy that is important.
I'm also interested in working in a culturally competent way so that clients can bring every part of themselves- including their religious or spiritual beliefs and cultural background- into their therapy, as well as thinking about intersectional identities (such as race, ethnicity, sexuality, gender, ability, class, age) so a person does not feel they only have to present a certain limited side of themselves. This also relates to thinking about how it feels to talk to me as their therapist and bringing this experience into the conversation between us.
I am registered with the Health and Care Professional Council (HCPC) and is a Chartered Member of the British Psychological Society (BPS).
