About me

Mr Pedro Muel-Gonzalez is a highly experienced Consultant Ophthalmologist. He served a Lead Consultant for Cataract Surgery at Optegra since April 2024. Previously, he served as a Consultant at Mid Cheshire Hospitals Foundation Trust from 2014 to 2023, where he was responsible for leading the Cataract Surgery Service and enhancing Theatre Efficiency.

Specialising in advanced cataract surgery, Mr Muel-Gonzalez is renowned for his extensive experience, performing cataract surgeries on a near-daily basis throughout the year in both NHS and private practice. His clinical expertise extends to ocular plastic surgery, management of watery eyes, and medical and laser treatments for glaucoma, alongside comprehensive general ophthalmology and emergency eye care.

Dedicated to education and training, Mr Muel-Gonzalez is an Educational Supervisor accredited by the Royal College of Ophthalmology, regularly mentoring and training ophthalmologists across North West England. His commitment to teaching is reflected in his active supervision of surgical trainees and participation in national and international ophthalmology conferences.

In addition to his clinical and educational roles, Mr Muel-Gonzalez actively contributes to humanitarian efforts, having travelled to the African Sahara with charitable organisations to perform complex cataract and ocular plastic surgeries for patients in refugee camps.

Mr Muel-Gonzalez is a respected member of various professional societies, including the Royal College of Ophthalmology, the British Ocular Plastic Surgery Society and the European Society of Cataract and Refractive Surgery.
