About me
Mr James Barnes is a paediatric and young adult orthopaedic surgeon based in Bristol. His practice covers the full range of paediatric orthopaedic conditions, trauma as well as young adult hip and sports-related injuries.
Mr Barnes trained in Sydney and the South West before undertaking a fellowship at the Royal Children's Hospital in Melbourne. Following his time in Australia, he returned to Bristol where he was appointed as a consultant at the Bristol Royal Hospital for Children and Bristol Royal Infirmary.
His specialist Interests include gait abnormalities, sports injuries, paediatric trauma, and non-arthritic hip pain.
Mr Barnes was awarded the prestigious Mark Paterson traveling fellowship, which he used to increase his expertise in the management of complex hip pathologies (including the sequela of Slipped Upper Femoral Epiphysis (SUFE), Perthes disease and hip dysplasia). He now runs the regional young adult hip clinic.
Mr Barnes is an Honorary Clinical Tutor at the University of Bristol, The paediatric section Editor for Hip International, an Educational supervisor, trained appraiser and has sat on the University Medical Admissions Committee for over a decade.
Outside of work Mr Barnes has 4 young children and can often be found running across the countryside looking for PBs.
