About me

I studied psychology at Cardiff University having discovered that I was interested in 'understanding people' whilst taking A-Level psychology. During my undergraduate years, I spent a year working as a Voluntary Psychology Assistant at Wandsworth Prison in London, and learnt how psychological theory could be applied to help others, even in the most difficult of circumstances.
Since graduating, I have worked in psychological therapy services within the NHS since 2004 with clients from a diverse demographic, from those with common mental health problems to those at the severe end of the spectrum. Thus, despite being a qualified CBT therapist, I have worked with in various other psychotherapeutic approaches, including psychoanalytic psychotherapy. I have also worked with individuals and groups.
I have a special interest in Compassion Focused Therapy for those whose high shame and self-criticism is an obstacle to living a fulfilling life. This is an emotion-focused approach, and one of the 'Third Wave' approaches borne out of CBT.
I am also trained in a number of trauma-focused approaches, as well as CBT, which gives clients increased choice in their therapeutic treatment (in line with what is most suited for their needs). Clients can often be offered a choice of CBT or EMDR, whilst compassion-focused therapy for trauma can be offered to those who experience a high level of shame as part of their trauma, and IRRT for those whose trauma arose from childhood experiences.
I have co-facilitated supervision groups, and also offer clinical CBT supervision. Additionally, I offer CPD workshops, and have presented on social problem solving, compassion-focused therapy, risk assessment and management, and group therapy skills amongst others.

In my private practice, I currently offer sessions at the weekend on a fortnightly basis. From mid-June 2018, I will also be offering weekly sessions on Monday and Tuesday mornings.
