About me
Dr Mortimer has been a consultant since 2010 practicing in South Wales for 5 years and in Harrogate since 2015. Her particular interest is in the care of patients with chronic respiratory disease such as COPD and bronchiectasis with particular focus on improvement of symptom control and quality of life.
She is a core member of the Post-Covid Syndrome (Long Covid) Multi Disciplinary Team or MDT based at Harrogate and District NHS Foundation Trust working alongside Allied Healthcare Professionals to provide holistic care for those recovering from COVID infection.
She trained largely in Wales but did a 3 year research job at the Scottish Pulmonary Vascular Unit based at the Western Infirmary in Glasgow between 2001 and 2004. She was awarded her MD in hypoxic cell culture from the University of Glasgow in 2010. Her work has been published and presented internationally. She was elected as a Fellow of the Royal College of Physicians in 2013.
Prior to starting a career in medicine she studied English Literature at Sheffield University and was awarded a 2:1 in 1989. While studying at Sheffield she developed an interest in representations of medicine and health in the 18th century English novel and was awarded a Major State Scholarship in 1989 to continue her studies at Oxford University. She was awarded an M.Phil in 18th Century English Studies in 1991 and from there she went to medical school in Cardiff where she graduated with commendation in 1997.
