About me

Dr Ranjit Mahanta is a dedicated and experienced Consultant Psychiatrist offering specialist assessment of older adult mental health. He is constantly striving for excellence. His philosophy is to provide an honest, responsive and personal service of the highest professional quality that is holistic, and evidence based.

Dr Ranjit Mahanta is a visiting Consultant Psychiatrist specialising in Old Age Psychiatry at the Priory Hospital Ticehurst House since 2021. Dr Mahanta remains a Consultant Psychiatrist in the NHS in Surrey since 2011 and currently leads an inpatient unit for severe functional and organic mental illness for patients aged 65 years and above. He has held previous leadership posts within the NHS including membership of NHS Clinical Senate, and is currently the Guardian of Safe Working Hours.

Dr Mahanta qualified from St Bartholomew’s & The Royal London medical school in 2003 and continued his postgraduate training in Old Age Psychiatry in London teaching hospitals. Upon completion of core training he qualified as a member of the Royal College of Psychiatrists in 2008. During higher specialist training in London, Dr Mahanta completed a Masters in Neuroscience at the Institute of Psychiatry, Kings College London with distinction in 2010. He went on to complete a Diploma in Geriatric Medicine from the Royal College of Physicians before completing his training, and enrolled on the GMC specialist register in 2011 as a specialist in Old Age Psychiatry.
