About me
Mr Parmar is a consultant orthopaedic surgeon specialising in upper limb surgery at Liverpool University Hospitals Foundation NHS Trust. He has specialist experience in trauma, joint replacement and arthroscopic (keyhole) surgery.
Mr Parmar graduated from the University of Manchester in 2000. He underwent postgraduate training in Manchester and Stoke prior to working in Sydney, Australia. He then completed his training in the North West of England, gained his Fellowship of the Royal College of Surgeons in 2010 and joined the Specialist Register in 2014.
Mr Parmar was awarded competitive specialist fellowships at three world renowned units: Wrightington, Liverpool Upper Limb and Trauma at the Royal Liverpool Hospital. This allowed him to gain further experience of complex upper limb conditions and to become familiar with many treatment options, utilising both arthroscopic (keyhole) and open techniques. He has since visited centres in Europe and North America to acquire new skills including a 2 week visitation to the Mayo Clinic.
Mr Parmar is an enthusiastic teacher. He has organised national trauma and upper limb courses, and has been a regular instructor on the Advanced Trauma Life Support course for over ten years, and had progressed to training the trainers for this course. He is asked to be faculty on a number of upper limb international courses and was the Shoulder and Elbow lead for Mersey Registrar teaching. He is now currently the Education Director for the Mersey Deanery. He has taught on the British Elbow and Shoulder Society Instructional course and helped organise the conference in 2022 in Liverpool.
He has ongoing research interests and has presented his work both nationally and internationally.
Mr Parmar maintains a medicolegal practice writing a number of reports annually and being a subeditor for the OPiL Bond Solon Training course.
Mr Parmar volunteered for a year as a consultant in Malawi and has been invited to present his experiences both nationally and internationally. Subsequently he has maintained an active interest in supporting orthopaedics in developing countries. He has written chapters for textbooks specifically aimed at treating orthopaedic injuries in the austere environment. He is a founding member of the North West Orthopaedic Trauma Alliance for Africa and The Frostick Foundation charities. He is currently the president of the Northwest Upper Limb Group.
Using this breadth of experience Mr Parmar aims to deliver patient focused care in treating a wide variety of upper limb conditions.
