About me

Mr David Thyagarajan is a leading Shoulder & Elbow Surgeon in Yorkshire, offering specialist treatment for all shoulder and elbow conditions. He practices at the Thornbury Hospital, Circle Health Group, Fulwood, Sheffield and Sheffield Teaching Hospitals NHS Trust. He is renowned for his technical skills, precision, compassion and unwavering commitment to exceptional patient care.
He graduated in Medicine in 1994. He completed his higher surgical training in Trauma and Orthopaedic surgery, working in Bristol and other hospitals within the Severn Deanery before securing a coveted position on the prestigious Nottingham Shoulder & Elbow Fellowship. He gained experience in complex cases and refined his expertise across all aspects of shoulder and elbow surgery during this high-volume, intensive fellowship training programme. His pursuit of excellence took him to world-class centres in Houston and San Antonio, USA, where he gained further experience in pioneering techniques in the field of Shoulder and Elbow surgery.
The SECEC Certification was awarded to him by the European Society of Shoulder & Elbow Surgery as recognition of his advanced expertise in Shoulder and Elbow Surgery and dedication to advancing care internationally.
Mr Thyagarajan provides world-class treatment in arthroscopic and open surgery for sports injuries, shoulder and elbow instability, joint replacement for degenerative disease, complex revision and custom reconstructive procedures, and sternoclavicular joint surgery.
Apart from his clinical work, he is passionate about education, innovation, and research. He has published research articles in leading peer-reviewed journals and serves as a reviewer for the Journal of Shoulder and Elbow Surgery. He presents his work regularly at major international conferences, including AAOS, SECEC, and BESS. He is invited to speak at global meetings such as the International Congress of Shoulder and Elbow Surgery.
In his educator role as an honorary senior clinical lecturer at the University of Sheffield and a trainer at Sheffield Teaching Hospitals, he is dedicated to guiding and honing the skills of the next generation of orthopaedic surgeons.
