About me
I am a Chartered Psychologist and Psychotherapist with a Masters in Mental Health Studies, a Cognitive Analytic Therapy (CAT) training and PhD (Guys Hospital). I was a founding member of the Organisational Psychiatry and Psychology MSc course at Guys, and worked in counselling and therapy with clients from both public and private organisations. I was a member of the Royal College of Psychiatrists `Changing Minds Employment working party, a campaign which sought to reduce stigma against mental health at work and school.
I work with individuals, couples, and families with a special interest in helping adolescents. Whilst the basis of my work is CAT, I adopt a varied, client-centred approach.
Most clients come to therapy because they are anxious, depressed/demoralised, confused and self-doubting – all to varying degrees. Although I am qualified and experienced as a psychologist, I do not emphasise the doctor-patient approach; rather I assume that the client is the expert, the one who is controlling the sessions and that I am there to facilitate well-being. The relationship between therapist and client is paramount. I therefore suggest one initial session and from thereon in, the client leads the way and sets the pace: some may attend intermittently, some by phone or skype. I encourage all clients only to continue attending if they find the sessions useful, meaningful and encouraging.
