About me
CURRENTLY FULL, NOT ACCEPTING NEW REFERRALS.
I am an experienced, approachable and thoughtful Child and Adolescent Psychiatrist who works with children, young people and their families to understand their distress and find effective and acceptable solutions and treatments.
I am able to provide assessments and treatment for children and young people as well as interventions for families, parents, couples and children with their parents. I can advise on further treatment and provide second opinions. For those under 18, it is usual to link with parents even if I am working mainly with the young person.
The mainstay of treatment for young people is psychological intervention. This can be in conjunction with a diagnosis of a mental health disorder and I can prescribe medication when appropriate.
Psychotherapy is a passion and skill of mine and I have recently trained in Internal Family Systems (IFS). Through talking, art, playing and observation and adapting to the clients' needs I also integrate skills from insight-oriented psychotherapy, systemic family therapy and cognitive behavioural therapy. There is no one size fits all approach; I tailor my approach to each client. I am also enthusiastic about the use of mindfulness and other activities that self-soothing and regulating emotions.
I want to provide a timely assessment and intervention before problems become entrenched and severe, and this means I do not always have capacity to accept new patients.
I am used to working with situations that contain some risk, such as self-harm and severe intentional weight loss. There may be times when directing the young person to the NHS team is more suitable that remaining in private healthcare, as I do not provide an emergency/24 hour service. I will happily work alongside other agencies and professionals if this can be arranged.
