About me

My practice is now concentrated on day case procedure having retired from the NHS in 2022.
My general surgical practice comprises open and laparoscopic hernia repair . My vascular practice now covers varicose vein surgery, in particular endovenous surgery for varicose veins.

My medical education was in London at Charing Cross Hospital Medical School Graduating in 1980. Following this I pursued a career as a surgeon in the Royal Air Force reaching the rank of Wing Commander and enjoying postings in Germany, Cyprus and Belize.

I retired from the RAF in 1995 and took up a Consultant Surgeon post at University Hospital of North Durham. For most of my career I have been involved in surgical training; particularly in Assessment and examination.
I represented the trust on the Regional Specialist Training Committee for General Surgery for 10 years. I was appointed as the Convener of Examinations (Chief Examiner) at the Royal College iof Surgeons of Edinburgh in 2017 for a period of 3 years. This meant I was responsible for organisation, standards and Quality Assurance of all examining activity at the Royal College of Surgeons of Edinburgh.
I served on the Council of thye Royal College of Surgeons of Edinburgh for 6 years.

I sit on the Medical Advisory Committee of the Spire Washington Hospitalfor 12 years.
