About me
Miss Rosaria Scarpinata is a Consultant Colorectal and Laparoscopic Surgeon at King’s College Hospital- Princess Royal University Hospital. Graduating in 2002 with full honours from Palermo University School of Medicine, Italy, she then completed Higher Surgical Training in General and Colorectal Surgery.
During this time she completed a 6 month fellowship at St. Mark’s Hospital, focusing on laparoscopic colorectal surgery. In the United Kingdom from 2009 she continued her training in laparoscopic colorectal surgery through two fellowships at Leeds General Infirmary and QE Birmingham. Appointed as an Ethicon Laparoscopic Colorectal Fellow in 2011 at Aberdeen Royal Infirmary, recognised as part of the National Training Programme of the Cancer Reform Implementation, she gained extensive training and hands-on experience in major laparoscopic colorectal procedures. She was then appointed as Senior Colorectal Clinical Fellow at King’s College Hospital in 2012 where she performed advanced laparoscopic surgery for benign and malignant colorectal disease.
As a Consultant General and Laparoscopic Colorectal Surgeon from 2013, she facilitated the expansion of the laparoscopic colorectal cancer service at Kings College Hospital. She developed a dedicated clinic for patients with pelvic floor disorders. Additionally she is a dedicated trainer in laparoscopic colorectal surgery, and has published widely in peer-reviewed scientific journals in colorectal cancer and diverticular disease.
