About me
Dr Prashant Sankaye is a Consultant Musculoskeletal (MSK) Radiologist with extensive specialist experience in musculoskeletal, spinal, and sports imaging. He holds the Fellowship of the Royal College of Radiologists (FRCR), a Postgraduate Diploma in Sports and Exercise Medicine ( PGDip in SEM), a Postgraduate Certificate in Medical Education, and is a Fellow of the Higher Education Academy (FHEA), MS ( surgery), FCPS (Surgery), and MRCS (Surgery), reflecting his commitment to both clinical excellence and medical education.
Dr Sankaye trained in the South West Peninsula Deanery rotation and completed a prestigious post-CCT Fellowship in Musculoskeletal and Spinal Imaging at the Nuffield Orthopaedic Centre and John Radcliffe Hospital, Oxford University Hospitals NHS Trust. He subsequently held a substantive Consultant Musculoskeletal Radiologist post at Imperial College Healthcare NHS Trust, London, where he served as Head of Speciality for MSK Radiology and Chief Trainer for postgraduate MSK training and Fellowship programmes. He also completed a visiting fellowship in bone and soft tissue tumour imaging at the Royal National Orthopaedic Hospital, Stanmore.
Dr Sankaye currently provides specialist MSK radiology and interventional radiology services at the Harley Street Hospital, London, alongside remote reporting for Inhealth, NHS, Apollo Radiology International and other leading private imaging providers. He produces between 300 and 400 MRI reports per week and carries out regular ultrasound scan and interventional procedures weekly, maintaining consistently high peer review accuracy rates of 95�98%.
His clinical expertise encompasses the full breadth of musculoskeletal imaging, including X-ray, CT, MRI, and ultrasound. He has extensive experience in: Joint, tendon, and ultrasound-guided injections, joint aspirations, Sports injury and repetitive strain injury (RSI) assessment � offering expert imaging and targeted interventional treatment for athletes and active patients. Soft tissue tumour assessment, biopsy, and follow-up � providing a one-stop diagnostic service
Advanced interventional procedures � including MRI arthrograms (shoulder, hip, elbow, wrist, ankle), US-guided biopsies, platelet-rich plasma (PRP) injections, hydrodistention for frozen shoulder, calcium barbotage, dry needling, and ultrasound-guided trigger finger releases � offering minimally invasive alternatives to surgery
Spinal imaging
Dr Sankaye takes a patient-centred approach, ensuring that every imaging finding is clinically meaningful and directly informs patient management.
He has served as an External Advisor to the Parliamentary and Health Service Ombudsman and the Public Services Ombudsman for Wales, and as an AAC Panel member for the Royal College of Radiologists. He is also an active FRCR 2B examiner and faculty member at national and international MSK radiology courses, and has delivered invited lectures at the ESSR, BSSR, UKRC, BIR, and RSNA.
His research is published in peer-reviewed journals, including Seminars in Musculoskeletal Radiology, Journal of Ultrasound in Medicine, Clinical Oncology, and Breast Cancer Research.
