About me
Mr Sharma is a Consultant Ophthalmic Surgeon at the Manchester Royal Eye Hospital. He has a special interest in Paediatric Ophthalmology and Adult Strabismus.
He graduated from the University of Rajasthan in 1994 and did postgraduate training in India and then higher specialist training in England under the north west deanery. He has done fellowships in Paediatric Ophthalmology and Strabismus from Sankara Nethralaya, a leading eye institute in South Asia and Manchester Royal Eye Hospital.
In addition to general ophthalmology services his areas of specialism are cataract and strabismus surgery in children. Mr Sharma provides consultations on a wide variety of childhood eye disorders. He also screens and treats premature infants with Retinopathy of prematurity.
He undertakes surgical correction of strabismus (squint) with fixed and adjustable sutures and performs botulinum toxin injections to the extraocular muscles for investigating and correcting strabismus (squint).
He performs cataract surgery in children with implantation of intraocular lenses.
Having over 20 years of experience in general ophthalmology, he provides consultations for adults with general eye problems and performs small incision cataract surgery and laser procedures for glaucoma, diabetes and capsular opacification.
He is active in teaching medical students, optometry students ophthalmic trainees and fellows in his NHS job and has presented in regional, national and international meetings.
Mr Sharma has communicative competence in English, Hindi, Urdu, Punjabi, Gujarati and Sindhi.
