About me
Professor Andrea Bille is a Consultant Thoracic Surgeon at Guy's and St Thomas' NHS Foundation Trust and Professor in Thoracic Surgery at Kings College University, London.
He specialises in the treatment of benign and malignant thoracic conditions and in robotic surgery. He sees patients privately for a range of conditions including Lung cancer, thymoma, mesothelioma, Pneumothorax, Infection of the pleura / empyema, Rib fractures, Pleural effusion and Mass/lesion in the mediastinum.
Professor Bille attended medical school at the University of Turin, Italy. He trained in Cardiothoracic Surgery in Turin and Guy's & St Thomas's Hospital, London. He qualified in 2011. Following this he did a clinical fellowship at Guy's Hospital in mesothelioma surgery and minimally invasive thoracic surgery.
In 2012 he was appointed as a Consultant at the National Institute of Cancer in Milan, focusing on surgical treatment of lung cancer, thoracic sarcoma and mediastinal tumours which require complex reconstruction.
He was awarded a PhD in 2015 following a three-year research programme on surgical treatment of mesothelioma. Pursuing a particular interest in the surgical thoracic oncology, he undertook a clinical fellowship at Memorial Sloan Kettering Cancer Center in 2014/15, the highest ranked oncological centre in the US. He was trained in minimally invasive technique for the treatment of thoracic malignancies and advance technique with complex reconstruction for extensive thoracic malignancies.
In 2015 Mr Bille was appointed Consultant Thoracic Surgeon at Guy's & St Thomas's Hospital where he treats benign and malignant thoracic disease. He routinely performs minimally invasive surgery and robotic surgery for lung and mediastinal conditions (over 2000 major robotic procedures performed).
He is involved in teaching of medical students and since 2016 has held an academic role at Kings College University, in 2026 he has been appointed as Professor in Thoracic Surgery in the Cancer division, focusing his research on robotic surgery, lung cancer. thymoma and mesothelioma.
He has published more than 2000 scientific articles and has given many presentations at national and international meetings, including the European Thoracic Meeting and the World Conference on Lung Cancer. He is the Associate Editor of the Thoracic section of the Tumori Journal, indexed on PubMed.
He is a member of the staging committee for Lung Cancer (N Subcommittee), Mesothelioma and Thymoma (IASLC Association). This committee creates and validates the TNM (tumour, node, metastasis) staging system used for thoracic malignancies around the world. He is also Chair of the European Registry of Mesothelioma in ESTS (European Society of Thoracic Surgeons), and a member of ITMIG (International Thymic Malignancies Interest group). He has been part of the organising committee of the 20th edition of the World Conference on Lung Cancer hosted in Barcelona in 2019. He has been course director of the Europe involved in research on Thymoma.
