About me
Dr Hayat has been a Consultant Gastroenterologist and Honorary Senior Lecturer at St George's University Hospitals since 2014, having trained at Imperial College School of Medicine. During his postgraduate gastroenterology training, he undertook an MD research degree into the use of advanced diagnostic techniques in Gastro-Intestinal disease. His work has been presented at the American Gastroenterology Association, United European Gastroenterology Association and the British Society of Gastroenterology, with awards from the AGA and BSG.
He is a specialist adviser for NICE on Gastro-Oesophageal reflux Disease, was a Principal Investigator in the UK for the first licensed treatment for Eosinophilic Oesophagitis and co-author for the BSG guidelines on eosinophilic oesophagitis.
He is the endoscopy lead at Queen Mary's Hospital Roehampton and Clinical Lead for GI physiology lab at St George's Hospital performing high resolution oesophageal manometry, ambulatory impedance-pH monitoring and wireless pH monitoring (Bravo pH monitoring). He is an experienced JAG accredited endoscopist and endoscopy trainer providing high quality gastroscopy and colonoscopy.
In addition to his clinical work, he teaches on the undergraduate medical school program at St George's, and is involved in a number of clinical research trials in eosinophilic oesophagitis, gastro-oesophageal reflux disease, irritable bowel syndrome and gastroparesis.
Dr Hayat runs specialist clinics for patients with reflux disease/indigestion and swallowing disorders including achalasia and eosinophilic oesophagitis. He also runs a general gastroenterology clinic encompassing the management of patients with anaemia, altered bowel habit including detection and assessment of irritable bowel syndrome, bloating, inflammatory bowel disease (Crohns and ulcerative colitis), gastrointestinal cancers such as stomach cancer and bowel cancer.
