About me
I am an orthopaedic surgeon with a sub-specialist expertise in spinal surgery; I have a specific interest in the cervical spine, lumbar degenerative conditions and spinal tumours. I have also trained in less invasive techniques and I commonly use the Wiltse approach for my lumbar surgery which leads to less soft tissue injury. I am a very conservative surgeon and will always look to treat your symptoms with non operative means as much as possible, to avoid the risks associated with surgery.
I started my surgical training by studying at Leicester Medical School where I qualified in 1999. I then went to the Yorkshire School of Surgery for my core training and Greater Manchester for my higher surgical training. Once I obtained my CCT I did my fellowship at the prestigious Royal Orthopaedic Hospital in Birmingham.
Having undergone a travelling fellowship in America, I attended the John Hopkins University Hospital. This allowed me to be trained in many different techniques for spinal surgery. I then started as a consultant with the Royal Orthopaedic Hospital in Birmingham for approximately three years before returning back to Manchester.
I am regularly involved in teaching the junior doctors and spinal fellows and I am a participating member of the British Spinal Registry and regularly conducts audits of my practice to improve patient services.
Research interests: Less invasive surgical techniques, imaging of the spine.
