About me
Sri Sharma is a Consultant Ophthalmologist who specialises in Medical Ophthalmology. She delivers specialist care in retinal conditions of the eye which includes diabetes, age related macular degeneration, vein occlusions , dry eye and eye inflammatory conditions ( uveitis in children and adults) and hydroxychloroquine retinopathy. Her second specialty is neuroophthalmology which includes conditions such as ocular migraine, myasthenia gravis, optic neuritis, double vision, idiopathic intracranial hypertension and optic neuropathies.
She is expert in understanding systemic medical conditions and how they relate to the eye.
Dr Sharma leads the regional uveitis ( ocular inflammation) service for adults and children service in Oxford. She is the Ophthalmic lead for national specialist services for neurofibromatosis 2 and neuromyelitis optica in conjunction with her neurology colleagues.
She completed two fellowships in the USA, in uveitis at the Casey Eye Institute and neuro-ophthalmology at the Johns Hopkins Hospital, Baltimore. Her training in Medicine and Ophthalmology was at the University of Bristol.
She has research interests in uveitis and several publications in this field. She is also leading a national study in hydroxychloroquine toxicity in the retina.
