About me

I was a Cardiothoracic Anaesthetist and
Intensivist at Wythenshawe Hospital, South Site Manchester for over 27 years &
have recently retired from NHS practice. A tertiary referral centre for all
cardiac surgery, including cardiothoracic transplantation, an active VAD
program, as well as 1 of the 5 national ECMO centers.
I was the Past President of ACTA (Association of Cardiothoracic
Anaestheists) and was on the Directory Board for EACTA (European Association
of Cardiothoracic Anaestheists) The International Committee for the ICCVA
(International Congress of Cardiovascular Anesthesiologists), EACTA
representative for the Program Committee for the SCA, (Society of
Cardiovascular Anesthesiologists) and was an examiner for the Royal College of
Anaesthetists for 11 years.
I developed transoesphageal echocardiography (TOE) at UHSM & ran an
internationally known TOE course for 15 years. I was on the British
Echo Society Accreditation committee and have written chapters in Echo
textbooks & Ophthalmology books as well as many papers & editorials.
I have organised many international & national meetings including
the first (& second) joint ACTA meetings with the Society of Cardiothoracic Surgeons, satellite
meeting to the World Congress of Anaesthesiologists in Iguassu Falls, Argentina. The last was the joint meeting
with EACTA & ACTA in Manchester September 2018. I am an international
lecturer, World Congress of Anesthesiology Hong Kong, SCA in the USA, ICCVA
New Zealand & Brazil, EACTA, ACTA and CASSA.
Specialist interest apart from cardiothoracic anaesthesia & intensive care are
echocardiography especially transoesphageal, anaesthesia for plastic surgery,
breast, orthopaedic and general surgery
