About me
I am a fully qualified, consultant colorectal and general surgeon treating patient with conditions relating to the colon and general surgery.
I graduated from The Royal Free Hospital School of Medicine, University of London in 2002 and then completed his basic surgical training on the North and East Hertfordshire NHS trust. Prior to entering the surgical registrar training, he undertook research towards a higher degree under the tutelage of Professor A Emmanuel at University College Hospital. Here I gained some expertise in pelvic floor dysfunction, incontinence and severe obstetric perineal trauma. I have continue to publish in this field and am developing the pelvic floor service in reading.
My specialist colorectal and general surgery training was on the North East London General Surgery Registrar training rotation. As part of the training I spent time learning about complex hernia repairs and trauma surgery. The rotation included well established laparoscopic colorectal centers.
In 2013 I received a scholarship to be a Fellow at Florida South Hospitals under the tutelage of Mr M Albert. The unit has a national and international reputation for innovative minimal access colorectal surgery. During this fellowship he learn to perform trans-anal microsurgery and was involved in developing TAMIS–TME. I have written book chapters on the TAMIS port.
In 2014 I undertook a Colorectal fellowship at the Queen Elizabeth Hospital, Adelaide, Australia, under the tutelage of the world renowned Professor Peter Hewitt. Here I have gained experience in advanced laparoscopic colorectal resections, complex multi-visceral resections for the treatment of advanced colorectal cancers and usual cancers.
I have been a Consultant at the Royal Berkshire NHS trust since 2015, and have enjoyed it. The appointment was as a General and Colorectal Surgeon with an interest in Pelvic floor. I have been able to develop Robotic Colorectal surgery and transanal surgery during my time at the hospital. My colorectal cancer mortality is 1.9% whilst the national average is 4% in 2019 (https://www.acpgbi.org.uk/surgeon-outcomes/royal-berkshire-nhs-foundation-trust/).
