About me

am a Consultant in Respiratory and General Medicine with extensive experience in managing a wide range of respiratory conditions, including complex and chronic diseases. My NHS practice is based at Liverpool Heart and Chest Hospital, one of the UK's leading cardiothoracic centres, where I work as part of a multidisciplinary team delivering expert, patient-centred care.
After completing my core medical training in General Medicine, I specialised in Respiratory and General Medicine in Merseyside. I then undertook a two-year Clinical and Research Fellowship at the prestigious Adult Cystic Fibrosis (CF) Unit at Liverpool Heart and Chest Hospital�one of the largest CF centres in the UK. My research into Cystic Fibrosis-Related Diabetes led to the award of an MD from the University of Liverpool.
I have previously held a Consultant post at University Hospitals Bristol NHS Trust before returning to Merseyside to continue my clinical and academic work.

Expert in physiotherapy-based assessment and treatment of chronic respiratory conditions such as COPD, bronchiectasis, asthma, breathing-pattern dysfunction and pulmonary fibrosis.

Specialist Respiratory Physiologist
Provides advanced lung function testing and respiratory assessments.
� Dr Alexandra Boughey (BSc, MSc, DClin)
Clinical Psychologist
Specialises in supporting individuals with physical health diagnoses and co-existing mental health challenges.
� Specialist Chest and Cardiac Radiologists
Provide expert interpretation of chest imaging to support accurate diagnosis and treatment planning.
Academic and Research Work
I hold an honorary academic appointment at the Institute of Infection and Global Health, University of Liverpool, where I lead and contribute to research in bronchiectasis, CF, and other chronic respiratory diseases. My work has been published in leading peer-reviewed journals and has contributed to improvements in clinical practice.

Appointments & Referrals
I welcome referrals for private consultations in all areas of respiratory and general medicine. I work closely with respiratory consultants who offer advanced interventions such as:
� Bronchoscopy and EBUS
� Lung cancer diagnostics
� Respiratory assessments in sports medicine
� Lung function testing for athletes and high-performance individuals

I remain actively involved in clinical research, with a focus on improving outcomes for patients with chronic respiratory conditions through evidence-based innovation and multidisciplinary collaboration.
