About me

Mr Kantilal Jain is one of only a few surgeons in the UK who has gained dual subspecialty training in both Cataract & Refractive surgery as well as Medical Retina.

He undertook his registrar training in the North West of England and has been a Consultant Ophthalmologist since 1995. With a vast experience over these years he has gained expertise in all areas of ophthalmology. He has been performing Phacoemulsification cataract surgery for over twenty years and gained further experience from the world renowned Gimble Eye Centre, Calgary, Canada. The extent of his experience has meant that he has dealt with a wide range of complex phacoemulsification cataract cases. He also has experience in Small incision Cataract surgery (SICS) the traditional technique of Extra-capsular Cataract extraction which is rare with many newer Consultant Ophthalmologists.

After undergoing a fellowship in Laser Refractive surgery under the auspices of Gustavo Tamayo in Columbia, one of the original pioneers of refractive surgery, Mr Jain started performing Laser refractive surgery in the UK. He is part of an originally relatively small group of Laser refractive surgeons who helped the surgery gain popularity in the UK, bringing the surgery to the masses rather than just the privileged few. He has performed over 10,000 Laser Eye surgery procedures in the UK & Ireland, and has Certification in Laser Refractive Surgery from the Royal College of Ophthalmologists.

He has undergone subspecialty Vitreoretinal fellowship at the University of Toronto, Canada; Medical Retina Fellowship at University Hospital Southampton NHS Trust. Hence he is an expert in dealing with ophthalmic patients with medical conditions such as diabetes and hypertension. He is an advocate of the use of Anti-Vegf agents in the management of conditions such as Age Related Macular Degeneration and Diabetic Retinopathy and has performed over 3000 Intravitreal injections. He is currently an NHS Consultant at the Chesterfield Royal Hospital in the Chesterfield Eye Centre which is a newly designed purpose built eye centre bringing high quality treatment to NHS patients in the local area.

Mr Jain has multiple first author publications in peer-reviewed journals to his name and is regularly taking part in Ophthalmology conferences throughout the world. He is involved in teaching of Ophthalmic nurses, Medical Students and Junior Ophthalmologists. Regular audits of his surgical outcome results are available on the ESCRS (European Society of Cataract and Refractive Surgery) website.

Outside of work he enjoys swimming, going for walks, travelling and spending time with his family.
