About me

I have been a psychologist for many years and have worked as clinician both in the NHS and in private practice, in academia (Department of Psychiatry, University of Dundee), and as a researcher (Medical Research Council, Speech and Communications Unit),

I also have “real” life experience - I have spent time outside the psychology ivory tower working in the high pressured IT arena. I provided consultancy services to banks, finance houses, government departments and the NHS.

There is one strong theme that runs through my approach to the practice of clinical psychology: I am focused on helping clients reduce their distress and enhance their enjoyment of life.

I am trained in and use methods and techniques that have been scientifically proven to be clinically effective. These include CBT (cognitive behaviour therapy), behaviour modification, behaviour activation, ACT, positive psychology, solution focused brief therapy, exposure, de-sensitisation, mindfulness, relaxation and MCBT (mindful cognitive behaviour therapy).

Areas of interest

Depression;Anxiety;Stress;Work place related stress;Anger problems;Substance misuse;PTSD (post traumatic stress disorder);Phobias; Panic disorders; Eating disorders / weight management; Bereavement and grief; Palliative care; Living with a diagnosis of cancer, ADHD

I provide therapy for children, teens, adolescents, adults and the elderly.

I provide medico-legal reports on the psychological consequences of Road Traffic Accident.

Currently my area of special interest is providing therapy for adults with ADHD.

A key aspect of all my therapy is a focus on outcome monitoring. My practice has a dedicated, secure portal for online assessments. Assessments are carried out at specific stages during therapy so that my clients and myself are able to keep objective track of my client's progress and adjust therapy if and as appropriate to ensure the best therapeutic outcome.
