About me

Daniel Richard Leff is a Consultant in Oncoplastic Breast Surgery and full Professor of Breast Surgery.

Daniel qualified from Imperial College School of Medicine in 2000, and conducted surgical training in the NW Thames London Deanery. He trained at several centres of excellence in breast cancer and reconstructive breast surgery including the Imperial Breast Unit, and the Royal Marsden NHS Foundation Trust. Daniel was competitively selected for a National Training Fellowship (one of only nine such posts in the UK) and completed Advanced Oncoplastic Breast Surgery training at the St Andrews Centre for Plastic Surgery and Breast Unit in Chelmsford. He previously won the Ronald Raven Prize Travelling Fellowship to learn from International experts in Breast Cancer and Reconstructive Surgery at the MD Anderson Cancer Center, the forefront of cancer care in the USA. Recently, Daniel was competitively selected for the highly prestigious James IV Association of Surgeons travelling fellowship to learn novel techniques in Japan and the USA in lymphoedema prevention and minimal access breast surgery.

Daniel holds a Master of Surgery Degree (MS) in Oncoplastic Breast Surgery, he graduated with a first class distinction and attained the highest aggregate score of his peer group. Daniel holds the inaugural 'Issac Gukas Medal' for outstanding achievement in breast surgery.

Daniel has a passion and drive to improve outcomes for patients undergoing breast cancer surgeries. He gained his PhD from Imperial College London in 2009 and conducts research into novel technologies including robotics, imaging, and sensing with a focus on reducing the burden of re-operative intervention for positive resection margins. His work has won many prestigious awards including the Sir Pat Forrest Research award, Parasuram Award and the Athanasiou Prize. He leads on technology clinical trials that seek to translate research into patient benefit. His team are focused on improving precision in breast conserving surgery.

Daniel works closely with his colleague Mr Paul Thiruchelvam both privately and within the NHS, seeking to deliver high quality care and minimise the cosmetic impact of breast surgery through immediate symmetrisation surgery.
