About me

Neil Kukreja is a consultant colorectal & general surgeon. He specialises in minimally invasive, robotic, colorectal treatments for all bowel problems including bowel cancer and endometriosis.

Neil works as a Consultant Surgeon in the NHS and private hospitals, and also trains other consultants on the Da Vinci robot. He is one of a small number of specialists trainers across Europe training other colorectal surgeons in robotic surgery.

Neil is a hard-working and productive surgeon. As well running a busy practice, he is dedicated to training and trains other consultant surgeons on the Da Vinci robot. His patients benefit from robotic surgery as they experience less pain and faster recovery. As a result of his dedication to continuous professional development, Neil Kukreja's patients reap the benefits of these superior treatments with less post-op pain, lower risk of complications and overall much faster recovery.

In 2015 Neil was appointed Clinical Director of the Emergency Surgery Programme at Medway NHS Foundation Trust, with responsibility for General (including Breast, Colorectal and Endocrine), Vascular and Orthopaedic surgery.

Neil is currently medical director at KIMS hospital, the largest private hospital in Kent. Prior to this, he was Director of Surgery at an NHS Hospital, which built on his work as Clinical Director for the Emergency Surgery Programme and Patient Safety Lead.

Patients describe Neil as warm, friendly and easy to talk to. He is well aware of the uncomfortable and embarrassing nature of the conditions he treats, and cares very much about putting his patients at ease, and making them feel as relaxed and comfortable as possible throughout their patient experience.

Qualifications and training
Neil qualified as a doctor from King's College London in 1998, gained his surgical fellowship in 2012 and was appointed a Consultant Surgeon in 2014.

Special interests
As a consultant colorectal surgeon, Neil has a particular interest and expertise in treating bowel cancer and screening for bowel cancer. His practice is focused on minimally invasive techniques as well as advanced treatments utilising robotic technology. Neil uses these techniques to work as a team with gynaecologists and urologists to successfully treat endometriosis.

In addition to robotic surgery he has extensive experience of diseases of the anus, including ultrasound-guided treatment of haemorrhoids (THD), management of complex fistula disease including the use of fistula plugs and pilonidal sinus surgery.

Neil manages the surgical diagnosis and surgical problems associated with inflammatory bowel disease and works closely with the gastroenterologists to provide a joined up approach. He is a JAG accredited endoscopist and is able to perform both upper and lower GI endoscopy (OGD and colonoscopy). His general surgical practice includes the management of hernias and gallstones (laparoscopic cholecystectomy).
