About me
Dr Neil McKay studied Medicine and Rheumatology in the North East of England Deanery from 1991, returning to his home city of Edinburgh in 2009. Neil is a Consultant Rheumatologist at the Lothian Rheumatic Diseases Unit of the Western General Hospital.
Neil is fully trained in all aspects of clinical rheumatology and possesses advanced expertise in the application of diagnostic ultrasound to the management of inflammatory joint disease. Neil diagnoses and treats a large number of people with a wide variety of musculoskeletal complaints affecting any part of the musculoskeletal system including the multisystem rheumatic conditions such as ankylosing spondylitis, lupus, and connective tissue disease. Dr Neil McKay has focused his interests on the care of people with arthritis particularly those who may have early or active disease symptoms.
Drawing on this clinical and diagnostic experience Dr Neil McKay offers the highest quality of care to people with musculoskeletal / inflammatory problems and assessing pain symptoms.
Dr Neil McKay undertakes all clinical Rheumatology work.
Neil has sub specialty interest in clinical research, ultrasound imaging, and rheumatoid arthritis. Dr Neil McKay specialises in the use of ultrasound for the rapid assessment of musculoskeletal joint pain. The inflammation treatment imaging examination (intime) facilitates immediate detection and treatment of rheumatic musculoskeletal inflammation pending any further required investigations.
Neil has authored rheumatology research on diagnostic ultrasound and the conditions raynauds phenomenon, scleroderma, and rheumatoid arthritis.
