About me

How Do I Know Which Therapist Is Right For Me?

It can be both bewildering and overwhelming to choose the right therapist to help you make the most progress in therapy.

Having a good fit with your therapist can help you feel more at ease, find it easier to open up about your thoughts and feelings, listen actively to suggestions and address your problems innovatively.

I offer a warm and friendly professional attitude towards all of my clients. As it can be a bit nerve wracking if not daunting to meet your therapist for the first time, I try and think of how I would like to be treated myself if coming to therapy, and what would help me to start to build a relationship and trust my therapist.

Over the years, I have learnt that the initial sessions are very important towards starting to feel at ease and building confidence as one embarks on the therapeutic journey.

I hope that reading over my profile helps to instil some confidence, and provide a sense of whether we may be the right fit and work together towards successfully overcoming your problems at this time.

Rather than offering mere textbook therapy, I aim to focus on the whole person as an individual and not just problems that are being treated.

Experience
My passion & interest lies in helping people make a difference to their lives. This underpins my work with people in both NHS and private settings. In over 15 years, I have worked with children, adolescents, families and adults as well as older adults from all walks of life. My professional experience includes effective treatment of a range of mental health problems from mild to severe problems including helping people who are very unwell and going through a crisis.

What do I Offer?
Brief to medium term psychological therapy for rapid and sustained treatment benefits. In some situations, longer term therapy may also be more appropriate.

Approach and orientation
I provide treatment for common problems such as stress, anxiety, depression, trauma/post-traumatic stress (PTSD), obsessions/compulsions (OCD), phobias and others. Depending on whether problems are mild or moderate or severe in nature, additional sessions may be required which can be easily requested.

My therapy is based on latest and current research on what works most effectively without
unnecessarily prolonging the duration of treatment. I specialise in state-of-the-art CBT and EMDR, and I also draw on other approaches such as compassion focused therapy, acceptance and commitment therapy and mindfulness. I also use both verbal feedback from people as well as their written feedback including completion of research-based questionnaires to understand what helps people the most, and how I can keep improving on providing positive experiences of therapy.

As people we can be drawn to the experiences of others, and stories can be so enlightening. For previous feedback from other people who have attended therapy, please refer to testimonials and videos on my website: www.successintherapy.co.uk
