About me

I am a Professor of Breast Cancer studies and I have twenty-five years’ experience at senior level in treating all aspects of breast cancer. I am trained in the delivery of Proton Beam Therapy (PBT) for the treatment of breast cancer and highly experienced in the application of Deep Inspiration Breath Hold (DIBH) techniques for breast radiotherapy.

I also supervise breast cancer chemotherapy, and have run large UK clinical trials in this modality. I am also highly experienced in delivery of hormonal therapy and of biological therapies including anti-HER-2 therapies (e.g. Trastuzumab), and CDK4/6 inhibitors (e.g. Palbociclib).

I have many years of experience in the treatment with radiotherapy for skin cancer and have published articles in this area, and I also treat all aspects of metastatic breast cancer including denosumab and many new therapies

My research work extends to extensive clinical trials experience and I am involved in research into cutting-edge new treatment techniques at Cardiff University where I am a Professor of Breast Cancer Studies.

In the NHS I have also just stepped down as Medical Director of Velindre NHS Trust after nearly 8 years at the helm, and I now lead on Clinical Innovation for the Trust.

In my spare time I play football, go cycling, snowboarding, Crossfit Training, mountain walking and also continue to try to master surfing (and failing) on the fabulous Llangennith Beach in the Gower Peninsula in South Wales.
