About me

I am a leading prostate cancer surgeon and urologist, and Medical Director of Prostate Clinic London, a specialist centre dedicated to the diagnosis and treatment of prostate conditions. I work in the NHS at University College London Hospitals. I performed the first Retzius-sparing robotic prostatectomy and currently do more of the salvage robotic prostatectomies than any other surgeon at that hospital. I trained in robotic prostatectomy in New York, Stockholm, Oxford, and London, giving me unparalleled training among UK robotic prostate cancer surgeons.

I work privately at: Mayo Clinic Healthcare in Central London (the London site of the world's best hospital) where I lead the Urology and Men's Health Services; LSDC Healthcare (City of London) where I am the chief academic officer; Cromwell Hospital (West London); and, New Victoria Hospital (South West London).

I was the first UK urologist to become full professor of urology at Cleveland Clinic, and the first Lead for Urology at Cleveland Clinic London where I performed the first urology cases as well as the first robotic cases of any specialty. I also was the lead for urology and men's health at Harley Street Specialist Hospital (Central London) before I moved to Mayo.

I am also the only urologist globally to be made Visiting Professor of Urology at both the University of Oxford and AIIMS in India.

I am one of the top 10 urologists in the UK as voted in a Daily Mail poll by my peers when asked who they'd let their nearest and dearest be looked after. I was also named as London's Most Influential Doctor in 2019 by the Evening Standard.

I have performed over 2,000 prostate cancer surgeries, including hundreds with the novel Retzius-sparing technique which vastly improves continence recovery after surgery; my patient outcomes are far better than the UK average and as good as the best surgeons internationally. My surgical innovations have been featured many times in the Press.

I was the clinical lead of the National Institute of Health and Care Excellence (NICE) specialist committee on robotic soft tissue surgery, and helped NICE create their first ever guidelines on robotic surgery for the NHS.

I am an exam writer for the Fellowship of the Royal College of Surgeons of England in Urology, an exam that is taken by urologists in the UK and worldwide when they complete training.

I am a scorer of the National Clinical Impact Awards awarded to UK consultants who have demonstrated impact on a national/international scale with their work. I was invited to become a scorer as I was one of the top-scoring applicants in my region of London North-East when I applied in 2019; my own National Award was renewed in 2024.

I am also a leading academic and have been awarded the degree of Master of Arts (Oxon) and Membership of the Congregation of the University of Oxford as recognition of my seniority and academic achievements at this world-leading University. I am the only London urologist to be conferred a Masters by resolution of the University of Oxford.

I am also the only urologist to win the Outstanding Contribution to Healthcare Award from the British Sri Lankan Association, which was recognised on Sri Lankan national television and in much of the Sri Lankan national press. This award is given to British Sri Lankans who make a major contribution to UK society, and I received it for my work in advancing prostate cancer care.

I am also the only UK urologist of my generation who was conferred Membership of the prestigious Golden Robot Society, an exclusive invite-only membership to a society of the most accomplished robotic surgeons globally.

I operate on patients from all over the world. They are overwhelmingly delighted with the care I provide and many are very happy to speak to prospective patients. I received the Great Patient Experience 2025 Award & 2026 Award.
