About me

Dr Jeremy Cobbold is an expert in liver and gastrointestinal conditions. He holds the posts of Consultant Hepatologist and Gastroenterologist at the John Radcliffe Hospital, Oxford and the Manor Hospital, Oxford. Dr Cobbold serves as clinical lead for Hepatology at Oxford University Hospitals NHS Trust and was appointed Honorary Clinical Senior Lecturer at the University of Oxford.

He qualified from the University of Cambridge and University College London in 2001. He underwent postgraduate training in Gastroenterology, Hepatology and General Internal Medicine in London, including at St Mary's Hospital, Paddington, the Royal Free Hospital and the Royal London. He obtained his PhD from Imperial College London in 2008, where he held the post of Clinical Lecturer until 2012.

Dr Cobbold has expertise in the diagnosis and treatment of a wide range of hepatobiliary and gastrointestinal conditions, which reflects his NHS practice. Particular areas of interest include investigation of abnormal liver tests, non-invasive assessment of liver disease and the management of non-alcoholic fatty liver disease and other metabolic liver diseases.

Dr Cobbold runs a program of clinical research including clinical trials for treatment and investigation of liver diseases and teaches medical students from the University of Oxford.

Consultations with Dr Cobbold are friendly, unhurried and holistic so that all concerns are addressed fully and promptly investigated. He sees private patients at the Manor Hospital, Oxford and the John Radcliffe Hospital, Oxford.

Areas of interest

Dr Cobbold's particular interests are in management of diseases of the liver, including:

abnormal liver function; non-invasive assessment of chronic liver disease; FibroScan; cirrhosis; non-alcoholic fatty liver disease (NAFLD, NASH); alcohol-related liver disease; autoimmune liver disease; viral hepatitis; haemochromatosis; cholestatic liver diseases (primary sclerosing cholangitis (PSC) and primary biliary cholangitis/cirrhosis (PBC)); focal liver lesions.

He also has expertise in the management of common gastrointestinal disorders including:

abdominal pain; altered bowel habit; dyspepsia; acid reflux; anaemia; upper and lower GI endoscopy; gastroscopy; colonoscopy
