About me

Mr Arfan Malhi qualified from the Royal Free Hospital School of Medicine London with distinction in the final MBBS examination. His basic surgical training was on the Kings College Hospital rotation. He then undertook a research post at the Hammersmith Hospitals NHS Trust before embarking upon higher Orthopaedic Surgical Training on the prestigious UCLH / Middlesex Rotation.

Sub-specialty training in primary and revision hip and knee arthroplasty was undertaken during a near year long fellowship at the University of Manitoba Joint Replacement Group in Canada. This is an extremely high volume centre with in excess of 1400 joint replacements performed per year.

His Consultant career started at University College Hospital London before he was asked to join the team at Lewisham and Greenwich NHS Trust. There he very soon established a busy practice in Hip and Knee arthroplasty with a sub specialty interest in revision surgery whilst maintaining a trauma practice. He has a particular interest in arthroplasty in high body mass index (BMI) patients and has presented internationally on this topic in Europe and North America.

He quickly took up the role of Trauma Lead for the trust and then moved on as the Arthroplasty Lead. He then became Clinical Lead for Trauma & Orthopaedics at University Hospital Lewisham in April 2016.

He then moved on to his current post at Guys and St Thomas' NHS Foundation trust in 2018 where he has a very busy Primary Hip and Knee Replacement practice as well taking regional referrals for both complex primary and revision (second and third time) hip and knee replacements.

He has been appointed Clinical Lead in Orthopaedics at Guys and St Thomas' NHS Trust.
