About me
Highly Specialist Clinical Psychologist | Trauma and Adolescent Mental Health Specialist | Qualified Yoga Teacher
Hello, I'm Dr Anouk Houdijk, a Highly Specialist Clinical Psychologist with over 12 years' experience working across NHS and private settings. I currently work within Berkshire Healthcare's Op COURAGE Mental Health Service for Veterans, alongside my private practice at the Newtown Clinic in Marlow.
I specialise in working with adults affected by trauma and with adolescents experiencing anxiety and emotional difficulties. My approach integrates evidence-based psychological therapies with compassion, curiosity, and an understanding of how early experiences shape both the mind and body. I believe that healing happens in a safe, authentic connection, and that therapy should help you feel seen, understood, and empowered to move forward.
I am trained in a range of therapeutic approaches including EMDR, Trauma-Focused CBT, Imagery Rescripting, Acceptance and Commitment Therapy (ACT), Cognitive Behavioural Therapy (CBT), Interpersonal Therapy (IPT), and Compassion Focused Therapy (CFT). This allows me to tailor therapy to your individual needs and goals.
Before establishing my private practice, I worked at the National and Specialist Child and Adolescent Mental Health Services (CAMHS) at the Maudsley Hospital, London, across the Conduct, Adoption and Fostering Service, the Eating Disorders Service, and the Traumatic Stress Clinic. These experiences deepened my understanding of developmental trauma, attachment, and the ways early adversity can shape emotional and neurobiological development throughout life.
Alongside my clinical work, I have presented at national and international conferences on adoption, fostering, and child behavioural difficulties, and have lectured at University College London and the Institute of Psychiatry.
I am also a Qualified Yoga Teacher with specialist training in Trauma-Informed Yoga. This reflects my belief in the mindbody connection and the importance of working holistically to support recovery and resilience. I often integrate body-based awareness into therapy to help clients reconnect with safety, self-compassion, and a sense of agency in their own lives.
I am registered with the Health and Care Professions Council (HCPC) and the Yoga Alliance, and I am a member of the British Psychological Society (BPS). I am recognised by most major health insurers.
