About me
Dr Ludman is a Consultant Cardiologist with experience in all areas of cardiology. His sub-specialty interests include heart failure, cardiomyopathy (disease of the heart muscle), heart valve disease and advanced cardiovascular imaging (MRI, CT and echocardiography).
He qualified from University of Wales College of Medicine in 2002 before pursuing post graduate training in London. Dr Ludman won the prestigious European Society of Cardiology Young Investigator award in 2010 and was awarded a MD research degree from the University College London in 2011. Dr Ludman undertook specialty training in Cardiology at the London Chest and St Bartholomew’s Hospitals as well as an international fellowship in Lausanne, Switzerland. He was also the Pan-London Heart Failure Fellow at The Royal Brompton Hospital, a pan-London fellow in cardiovascular CT and trained in cardiovascular MRI at The Heart, Great Ormond Street, The London Chest and The Royal Brompton Hospital’s.
Dr Ludman was previously the lead clinician for the Exeter cardiology service and is currently a Clinical Director within the Medical Division of the Royal Devon & Exeter Hospital. He is the current Chair of the British Cardiovascular Society Guidelines and Practice committee.
Dr Ludman has been involved in the development of local and national clinical guidelines. He remains actively involved in a broad range of research studies. In addition to numerous research papers, he has written book chapters and textbooks in the fields of heart failure and advanced imaging techniques and teaches the students attending the University of Exeter and Peninsula medical schools.
Outside work Dr Ludman enjoys all sorts of sports, is a keen cyclist and skier and is often found chasing his two boys.
He sees patients for all problems that may be related to the heart, including chest pain, palpitations, breathlessness, high blood pressure and reducing the risk of future heart problems.
