About me

Dr Oliver Brain is a leading specialist in gastroenterology in Oxford. He is a Consultant Gastroenterologist at the John Radcliffe Hospital, Oxford University Hospitals NHS Trust, and Nuffield Health The Manor Hospital, Oxford. Dr Brain is a knowledgeable and empathetic physician. He will listen carefully to your problems and is a first-class diagnostician, ensuring that you will receive an outstanding holistic service. He is a skilled endoscopist for both upper (OGD) and lower (colonoscopy) gastrointestinal procedures.

Dr Brain completed his clinical training at St Bart's and The Royal London Medical School in 2000. His postgraduate training in Gastroenterology and Internal Medicine was at the John Radcliffe Hospital, Oxford. His immunology research training and DPhil into the function of Crohn's disease susceptibility genes was undertaken at the Weatherall Institute of Molecular Medicine and Translational Gastroenterology Unit (TGU) in Oxford.

Dr Brain is a leading Gastroenterologist in the TGU, Oxford University Hospitals and has a practice encompassing all aspects of gastroenterology. Dr Brain runs an active research programme into the mechanisms of gastrointestinal inflammation including the pathogenesis of cancer immunotherapy-induced enterocolitis. He is also the primary investigator (PI) for clinical trials for new treatments. He has published more than 40 articles in peer-reviewed journals and textbooks in the field of gastroenterology. Dr Brain is a Fellow of the Royal College of Physicians, and a member of both the British Society of Gastroenterology (BSG) and the European Crohn's and Colitis Organisation (ECCO). He is an Honorary Senior Lecturer with Oxford University and contributes regular University teaching sessions, as well as lecturing nationally and internationally. He is on the specialist register with the General Medical Council (GMC), and is accredited with all major UK health insurers.
