About me

I have been looking after people with knee problems for over 10 years. What I have learnt over the years is that consultants who specialise in one thing tend to have the best results. That’s why I chose to only look after and help people with knee problems.
There are three main problems that I can help you with:
Sports injuries, for example, helping you get active and playing again after a cartilage tear or cruciate ligament tear.
Diagnosing your knee pain, getting to the bottom of what’s causing the pain, arranging investigations such as MRI scans and X-rays, making sure you understand what the problem is and helping you fix it.
Knee arthritis, I can help diagnose knee arthritis early and will be able to offer treatments such as specialist joint injections (that are not always available on the NHS). Early diagnosis and treatment can help you avoid major surgery. If you need surgery, such as a knee replacement, I will help you chose if surgery is right for you and I will only perform the surgery that is right for you.

Research interests

I want to help people with sports and knee injuries. I was a team doctor, looking after competitors in sports including athletics, football, basketball, and cycling.

I want to help doctors and patients understand more about knee injuries and develop better treatments. The best way to do this is to conduct high-quality research. I am the Principal Investigator for a National Institute for Health Research study on the treatment of anterior cruciate ligament injury.

Helping people with knee arthritis and ensuring those who need knee replacement surgery get the best possible outcome is very important to me. I am PI for a trial which is helping understand which patients will have good outcomes from knee replacement surgery.

I am interested in new treatments to help people with sports injuries. I am the PI for a national study looking at platelet-rich plasma (PRP) injections for Tendon injuries.

Personal interests

I was born and raised in Anglesey. Having lived and worked in Liverpool and Manchester I settled in Cheshire with my family and have lived in Cheshire now for over 15 years. I enjoy varied interests including world cinema, tennis, & swimming. I am married and have two daughters. We all enjoy keeping active by playing tennis, swimming and exercising regularly. I am the tennis captain for a local junior tennis team.
In the distant past, I was a competitive swimmer, competing at national level.

I train surgeons and medical students in knee surgery. I also teach and train GP's and physiotherapists to look after people with knee problems in the community.
I hold free seminars and personal or small group educational talks and informal meetings with GP's and Physiotherapists locally. If you are interested in meeting up please call me and we can arrange a time.
