About me

Mr Cohen was awarded a Commendation when he received his Medical Degree from the University of Liverpool. Following this he completed Higher Surgical Training on the Mersey rotation, before embarking on Complex Hip and Knee Replacement Fellowships.

Mr Cohen was appointed as the John Charnley International Arthroplasty Fellow at Wrightington Hospital, in addition to national and international travelling fellowships and visitations to Massachusetts General Hospital, Boston, USA; Musgrave Park Hospital, Belfast and The Queens Medical Centre, Nottingham.

Mr Cohen has published and presented nationally and internationally and was the recipient of the Jacques Duparc Award from the European Federation of National Associations of Orthopaedics & Traumatology. Mr Cohen lectures and teaches on a number of meetings and courses nationally and has been awarded a Diploma in Clinical Education from the Royal College of Physicians and Surgeons of Glasgow.

Mr Cohen provides a patient centred Hip and Knee Arthroplasty service at the BMI Highfield Hospital, Rochdale. This includes complex primary hip and knee replacements for arthritis, developmental hip dysplasia and avascular necrosis, and revision surgery for infection, aseptic loosening and instability. Combining traditional methods with modern technology, Mr Cohen aims to achieve the very best results for his patients by considering all the options available, ranging from advice and physiotherapy to keyhole or joint replacement surgery. With over five years of consultant experience, Mr Cohen’s outcomes are exemplified by excellent patient feedback and his National Joint Registry data.

Mr Cohen is the Hip & Knee Replacement Lead Surgeon at the Northern Care Alliance NHS Group at Fairfield General Hospital and an Honorary Senior Lecturer at the University of Salford, Manchester.

Mr Cohen also runs an NHS consultant led adult and paediatric Trauma Service at the Trauma Unit at The Royal Oldham Hospital, which includes the management of periprosthetic and articular fractures of the lower limb. With a Diploma in Clinical Education, Mr Cohen has been actively involved in surgical training at all levels both locally and nationally. This includes his current roles as Clinical Supervisor to Foundation Year Trainees at The Royal Oldham Hospital and to Final Year Medical Students from the University of Manchester, and as Clinical Lecturer for the Foundation Year Doctors at Pennine Acute NHS Trust.
