About me

Having graduated from University of Wales College of Medicine, I went on to complete junior surgical training in Wales before crossing the border back into England.
During my higher vascular and general surgical rotation in the South West I completed a Masters degree in disaster healthcare and worked in Ethiopia. I have also taught trauma care in Ethiopia, Sierra Leone and the Caribbean.
I achieved a Scholarship from the National Institute of Health and Clinical Excellence (NICE) with work on the diabetic foot and have set up the Bristol Trauma Course.
I have a keen interest in training and am the Training programme director for surgical training at the School of Surgery, Health Education Southwest. I am faculty on many national courses such as the National Vascular Training Day and the UK Endovascular Trainees course.
I believe in a 'human factors' approach to medicine and have been involved in teaching ergonomics and human factors for over 10 years. I work increasingly on building better systems to improve quality in healthcare.
Prior to working in Taunton,I was awarded the Royal College of Surgeons and Vascular Society Fellowship, undertaken in the University of Liverpool vascular unit. This gave me advanced training in endovascular and open arterial surgery.
I live near Taunton with my wife and three children.
