About me
Hello.
I'm an experienced Clinical Psychologist offering psychological therapy for Bupa members in Central London.
I have a doctorate in clinical psychology as well as other postgraduate qualifications and training in specific therapeutic approaches (see the 'My qualifications and training' section of my Bupa profile), and I have specialised in providing psychological therapy for the past 20 years.
I am registered as a Chartered Clinical Psychologist and Associate Fellow of the British Psychological Society (BPS), as a Practitioner Psychologist with the Health and Care Professions Council (HCPC), and as an Accredited Psychotherapist with the British Association for Behavioural & Cognitive Psychotherapies (BABCP).
I approach my work as a therapist with humility and a genuine sense of compassion towards others, and I pride myself on being professional, honest, and open.
If you decide that I might be the right therapist for you to work with, whilst my existing knowledge will undoubtedly influence our work, I will also seek to prioritise your personal experience of the problems that you wish to address above all else.
Whatever you would like to discuss in therapy, whether it relates to a specific mental health diagnosis, or a particular aspect of your life, I will concentrate on how you, as a unique individual, experience those things.
This way of approaching therapy is based on a firm belief that whilst the problems we encounter in life might be similar, how each of us understands and responds to these problems is different.
I think it is vitally important for therapy to both respect, and reflect, this difference.
In practice, this means our work together will include four main therapeutic tasks.
1. Description
I will ask you about the problems that you wish to discuss, and I will listen carefully and respectfully to your responses, trying as best I can to get a felt sense of how you, as an individual, experience those problems.
2. Understanding
From the details you provide in your descriptions, I will work with you to develop more in-depth ways of understanding, created between us as part of a collaborative process, and consistent with psychological principles.
3. Possibilities
From these deeper ways of understanding, we will identify and discuss any possibilities that may exist for change, whilst carefully thinking through the potential impact on different aspects of your life.
4. Change
Finally, I will support you to adopt an exploratory and incremental approach towards making any changes that you wish to make, whilst paying close attention to your experience of this.
Therapy will conclude with a review of our work together and a discussion of the implications for the future.
