About me
I have been a Consultant Gastroenterologist and General Physician at Basildon for more than 30
years. I have a broad range of experience and competence in all areas of gastroenterological practice including inflammatory bowel disease, nutrition, gastrointestinal cancer. I am a highly competent endoscopist with certification as an advanced bowel cancer screening colonoscopist.
I lead the hospital upper GI cancer group and have been the Regional Network Chair for upper GI cancer for some years until relinquishing my post this year.
I am the Clinical Effectiveness Lead for the Trust with responsibility for a wide range of clinical quality issues with particular reference to NICE guidance and quality standards.
I was the Clinical Director for Medicine and Emergency Care for the Trust for many years with responsibilty for managerial, administrative and financial areas in a huge Directorate.
I pride myself on my teaching achievements winning the Top teacher award from UCLH on more than one occasion. I spend regular time teaching medical students, junior doctors and nurses. I am a very keen team player with close links with all staff including nurse specialists, administrators and managers. I consistently receive excellent feedback for all areas of my work.
I make sure that I keep up to date with my skills and competencies and rigorously and robustly monitor my clinical and endoscopic performance.
