About me

Professor Babu Kunadian is a Consultant General and Interventional Cardiologist at Nuffield Health The Grosvenor Hospital, Chester.

Professor Kunadian has a sub-speciality interest in interventional cardiology based at the Liverpool Heart and Chest Hospital as well as the Countess of Chester Hospital. He was appointed in April 2013 and has experience in all areas of cardiology.
Professor Kunadian trained on the Mersey Cardiology Programme following the completion of his research doctorate in Newcastle University. He had cardiology training in London Chest Hospital and Northern Deanery and has done an Interventional Cardiology PCI Fellowship at the University of Alberta, Edmonton, in Canada (2012-2013).

Professor Kunadian has completed MA in Clinical Education at Edge Hill University. He has completed Oxford Executive Leadership Programme at the Oxford University and 2-year Clinical Leadership Programme organised by Countess of Chester Hospitals. Professor Kunadian is accredited in Cardiac CT by the British Society of Cardiac Computed Tomography

Research
Professor Babu Kunadian has carried out clinical research in the setting of acute myocardial infarction, which has led to obtaining his academic MD degree at Newcastle University United Kingdom. His research work has led to publications in 29-peer reviewed journals (17 first author) including the Lancet, BMJ, AHJ, CCI, IJC and the Heart journals. He has 39 abstract presentations (24 first author) at major cardiology scientific sessions.

Impact of Research: PCI quality assessments programme in the UK - His research group was the first group (him as first authour) to publish individual PCI operator outcomes in the UK. Since then, this method and model has been adopted by the British BCIS for reporting individual and hospital outcomes. Such metrics have been of major clinical and policy interest in the UK. His skills in database construction, funnel plots and other statistical techniques, are utilised as advisor to British Cardiac Interventional Society for clinician/ surgical performance metrics.
