About me
Most importantly, I work with people, not diagnoses or labels. I specialise in working with those with a history of trauma, whether that's one off events such as a car crash, sexual assault or attack, or layers of trauma in the form of childhood neglect/abuse, a military/medical career or an abusive relationship. I try to help my patients overcome their ongoing reactions to this trauma, such as nightmares, flashbacks, intrusive memories, high levels of anxiety and poor sleep. I also work with people experiencing moral injury and survivors guilt. Additionally, those experiencing depression, anxiety, OCD and relationship issues.
At the core of my work is a person centred philosophy. I see every patient as different and individual which is why I tailor my approach to each person. I don't necessarily agree with prescribing a method to a diagnosis or problem as I've found this is not always helpful. However I am qualified to deliver EMDR and NET, both evidence based trauma therapies.
Finding a therapist that fits can be a minefield. A positive relationship with your therapist is absolutely paramount to effective change taking place, and an overwhelming amount of evidence shows that the therapeutic relationship is more important than the techniques or approach used by the clinician. So try to choose wisely...
Areas of interest
I specialise in the treatment of adults with a history of trauma in their lives, particularly trauma from childhood difficulties or adversity, and also trauma as a result of difficult relationships.
Additionally, I have a lot of experience working with military veterans and medical professionals suffering from PTSD.
I have a special interest in EMDR and IFS, both trauma focused therapies which I believe are very effective in helping my patients understand trauma and how it affects them, and also alleviating their suffering.
