About me

Mr Ash Khurana completed his higher specialist training in Trauma & Orthopaedics on the Welsh Rotation and was awarded FRCS in 2012. He has also completed MSc in Orthopaedic engineering at Cardiff University and uses the deeper understanding of mechanical principles in treating his patients.

Mr Khurana gained spinal surgical training in Cardiff and then completed his accredited fellowship at the prestigious Spinal unit in Queen’s Medical Centre, Nottingham where he gained an extensive experience in all aspects of spinal management, especially adult spinal deformity, metastatic spinal pathology, microscopic and minimally invasive surgery. He also trained with spinal neurosurgeons furthering his understanding of the spinal pathology from both an orthopaedic and neurosurgical perspective. He was awarded a travelling fellowship to the world renowned Spinal unit at Queen Mary Hospital, Hong Kong. He is a member of various spinal societies around the globe.

Mr Khurana’s NHS practice is in Royal Gwent Hospital. His special interests include spinal trauma, metastatic spinal tumour and complex degenerative spine surgery including neck and the back. He uses various spinal injections, radiofrequency ablation, open and minimally invasive fixation techniques including cementation for managing his patients. He objectively assesses the outcomes of his interventions using PROMs (Patients Reported Outcome Measures).

Mr Khurana gives back to science by being actively involved in research and teaching. He has numerous articles and international/ national presentations to his credit. He is a reviewer for scientific journals and an editor for the orthopaedic in-training exams. Mr Khurana is chair for Professional Practice and an exec member of the British Association of Spinal Surgeons (BASS).
